Customer Inspired Innovation
We began with the Glion SmartScooter Model 100 introduced on Kickstarter in 2014. It was our first project on Kickstarter. We followed up with the Glion Dolly Electric Scooter Kickstarter campaign in the Fall of 2015. Your response was amazing. We are grateful. Ken was one of our Kickstarter backers in our first campaign. He was attracted to the portability of our Model 100. He also wanted to help a small company get its start. However, he promptly realized he didn't have the balance to operate a two wheel stand up electric scooter. He solved the problem by customizing his Model 100 with a seat and side wheels:
Ken's Custom Model 100
Ken shared with us his custom Model 100 and described his needs. He could walk-he just couldn't walk long distances. He wanted to be able to throw it in the back of his car, snap it open and go. We looked at what was on the market. We found the lead acid powered mobility scooters were affordable but heavy. You had to either have a crane to lift them or a ramp to drive them in and out of your car. Otherwise, you needed to disassemble them into four or five different pieces that you could then lift into your car and reassemble when you arrived at your destination. We found a few lithium ion powered alternatives but they were expensive. The lithium ion powered options were lightweight but not affordable. They also had limited rider weight capacity. Neither option incorporated our dolly portability and self standing feature. Our first effort was to ad a side car to our existing Glion Model 215.
Kugler Sidecar
It was literally and figuratively a bolt on to our existing product line. It had the whole package. However, it wasn't stable. It had a tendency to "fly the chair" when turning towards the sidecar. It was also a little tricky to step in and out of.
So we started from the beginning and have developed this new mobility solution from the ground up. It is the lightest, most durable, travel mobility scooter in its class. We call it the Glion SNAPnGO.
